Sue in stretching poseThe Pilates system was developed by Joseph Pilates at the beginning of the 20th century as a result of being a sickly child. In his determination to overcome this, he experimented with several different approaches to exercise and fitness to develop one system that brought about a body with strength, flexibility and perfect balance. Its emphasis is on 'core strength' and has been very popular in prevention of and rehabilitation from injuries.

My classes are Pilates-based matwork classes with a slight yoga slant, and will develop strength, flexibility and good body alignment.
